Happy New Year from the DOSA family!  For SF Restaurant Week from January 21-30, 2015 we are focusing our menu on the prominent culinary region of Hyderabad with many new dishes! Reserve a table and join us for a bite!

The historic city of Hyderabad is now the shared capital of two states of modern India, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.  It was established in 1591 and a hundred years later came under the influence of the Mughals from the regions of Persia and Turkey.  From the early 1700’s to the end of WWII it was ruled by a dynasty known as the Nizams, or princes,of Hyderabad whose kitchens greatly influenced the cuisine of the region.   The luxurious dishes were a composite of local Hindu spices and cooking techniques, combined with the roasting of meat from the Arab world and the culinary customs of the Muslim rulers.   The biryani, a rice-based dish, is a signature from this region and goat is a popular meat that is marinated and cooked for hours to enhance its flavors.  As the Mughal Empire spread across India it influenced the cuisine of Hyderabad in the heart of South by sharing ingredients and techniques from the North such as wheat-based breads, dairy and the use of cumin and chiles.   For SF Restaurant Week we are focusing on this prominent culinary region with several new dishes!  Join us!

Authentic South Indian cuisine and a casually refined atmosphere come together at DOSA, the exciting dining destination located in the vibrant cultural hub of the Mission District. Spiced to tantalize and priced for the neighborhood, DOSA is the perfect place for a festive night out, and affordable enough for a mid-week meal after a busy day at work. Lighter, occasionally spicier, and more varied in flavors than the cuisines of other parts of India.

Another distinctive feature of DOSA is the attention placed on pairing wines. The wine list is carefully selected by our Wine Director, Ziya Aktas. We have specifically selected local as well as, globe-trotting, value-oriented wines for synergy with South Indian cuisine.
